Instacom joined the Solidarity Helping Hand project that has launched further outreach actions in Mooinooi and Rustenburg to provide food. This follows after the organisation declared the platinum belt a partial disaster area as a result of the strike that began at the platinum mines three months ago. The disaster area includes the towns of Rustenburg, Brits and Mooinooi.
Solidarity members are not striking but thousands of families are nonetheless experiencing severe financial need since both employees and contract workers have earned little or no income since the strike began.
Helping Hand have distributed 24 kg food hampers and other fresh produce, and members were given the opportunity for confidential access to emotional and debt counselling.
